What Are E-liquids?

E-liquid (aka vape juice or vape liquid) is the fluid inside refillable vapes that creates the vapour. Every e-liquid has a base of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG), mixed with flavour and nicotine (optional).

There are three main types:

  • Freebase e-liquid: This is the traditional form of nicotine used in vape liquids. It delivers a stronger throat hit and is usually available in 10ml bottles with varying nicotine strengths (usually 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, or 18mg).

  • Nicotine salts: Manufactured for smoother absorption, nicotine salts are popular for those trying to enjoy the feel of smoking. These work well in pod systems and MTL kits and come in 10ml bottles, usually in 10mg or 20mg strengths.

  • Shortfills: These are larger bottles (50ml or 100ml) with 0mg nicotine but room to add a nicotine shot.

The Ideal VG/PG Balance

VG/PG ratios also play a role. Higher VG (like 70/30) is thicker and works best with sub-ohm coils, while 50/50 ratios suit starter kits and pod systems. The right balance depends on your kit, coil resistance, and how you like to vape. Keep these points in mind when choosing an e-liquid for your kit:

  • For high-resistance coils (0.6 ohms onwards), always use low VG e-liquids.
  • For low-resistance coils (like 0.15, 0.5, etc.), choose high-VG fluids.
  • Nic shot is only made for shortfills and should not be vaped separately.
  • Never mix nic shots in freebase or nicotine salts.

All our Eliquids are TPD-compliant, batch-tested, and labelled with full ingredient info. We keep everything categorised, so you can easily find nic salt for your pod or a thick VG shortfill for your mod.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you take vape liquid on a plane?

+
Yes, you can take vape liquid on a plane, but there are rules. Most airlines follow the standard liquid allowance, so each bottle must be 100ml or less and fit inside a single plastic bag. Also, while carrying vape liquid is allowed, using or charging a vape onboard is strictly prohibited. Always check with your airline beforehand.

Why is my vape juice turning dark in the tank?

+
One reason is exposure to air and heat, which causes oxidation, especially in liquids with nicotine. Another factor is your coil; as it heats up and ages, it can slightly “cook” the juice, especially with sweet vape flavours. Residue can also build up from repeated use. To reduce this, keep your device clean, don’t leave juice sitting too long in the tank, and change coils regularly.

How to open an e liquid bottle?

+
Most 10ml and 50ml eliquid bottles come with childproof caps. To open one, press the cap down firmly and twist anticlockwise. Some bottles might feel tight, especially when new, but the safety mechanism is there to prevent spills or tampering. If you're struggling, try using a cloth for a better grip. If you’re new and unsure, feel free to ask us in-store or via support. The instructions are usually printed on the label, too.

Am I supposed to mix nicotine shots with my e-liquid?

+
For shortfills, yes. These are nicotine-free bottles sold in larger volumes (like 50ml or 100ml) and are designed to be mixed with 10ml nicotine shots. You don’t mix nic shots into nic salt or freebase e-liquid, as those already contain nicotine. Just pour the nic shot into the shortfill bottle, shake it well, and you’re good to go. Make sure to leave some space in the bottle so everything blends properly.

What’s the difference between nic salt and e-liquid?

+
Nic salts absorb quicker into your bloodstream and give a smoother inhale, even at higher strengths like 20mg. They're great for smokers switching to vaping or those using low-wattage pod kits. Freebase nicotine, on the other hand, gives a stronger throat hit and is better for people who want a more traditional vaping feel.

Where can I find e liquid online in the UK?

+
At IMMYZ, we stock a wide selection of the best vape juice online in the UK. Our collection includes shortfills, nic salts, and freebase e-liquid, with strengths ranging from 0mg to 20mg. We’re fully compliant with UK TPD laws. Check our product filters to find exactly what you need.

What is freebase e-liquid?

+
It was the first kind of vape juice to hit the market and remains popular today. This type gives a more noticeable throat hit, which some people prefer, especially those coming from cigarettes. Freebase works best in low-wattage kits or with a coil rated above 1.0Ω. It usually comes in 10ml bottles with varying nicotine strengths. Unlike nic salts, it delivers a slower nicotine absorption rate but provides a stronger "throat hit."

How long does vape liquid last?

+
Unopened vape liquid lasts around 1 to 2 years, depending on the ingredients and storage. Most bottles have a printed expiry or "best before" date. Once opened, the shelf life is reduced, especially if the bottle is exposed to light, heat, or air. Proper storage helps keep the flavour and nicotine strength stable. If your e-liquid starts to taste off, looks cloudy, or smells different, it's probably time to replace it. Always check the label before use.
